Understanding the tests included in your Package in relation to Menopause:
One package. A wider view.
This package gives you a simple snapshot of key biomarkers that can provide useful insights into your health during menopause.
The tests do not measure skin age, wrinkles, collagen, pigmentation or hair health. The skin and beauty information is provided as educational wellness information, helping you understand how hormonal and nutritional factors fit into the bigger picture of women's health.
Menopause & Your Skin
Oestrogen has important roles in the skin. As oestrogen levels decline during menopause, changes in skin biology can occur. These changes can include reductions in skin thickness, collagen and elasticity, as well as changes in hydration and barrier function. This may contribute to skin becoming drier, thinner or less firm, and to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. These changes are a normal part of ageing and menopause, and are also influenced by genetics, sun exposure and other lifestyle factors.
This package brings together selected biomarkers that are relevant to women's wellness during this stage of life:
Vitamin D
Vitamin D is involved in normal bone, immune and cellular function. During midlife and menopause, maintaining adequate vitamin D is particularly relevant to bone health and general wellbeing. Vitamin D also has biological roles within the skin, where skin cells respond to vitamin D signalling. Vitamin D deficiency can contribute to diffuse hair thinning and nail brittleness.
Cholesterol
Oestrogen influences lipid metabolism. As oestrogen levels change during the menopause transition, blood lipid levels can also change. This makes cholesterol relevant to understanding general health. Cholesterol is also one of the lipids naturally found in the skin barrier, which helps reduce water loss and maintain normal barrier function. This blood cholesterol test, however, measures cholesterol in the blood — not cholesterol in the skin.
Thyroid
Thyroid hormones influence metabolism and many cellular processes throughout the body. Thyroid changes can produce symptoms that may overlap with experiences commonly associated with menopause, which is why thyroid health can be relevant when looking at general wellbeing during midlife. Thyroid hormones also interact with the skin and hair follicles and can be associated with changes in skin dryness, texture and hair characteristics.
Iron
Iron supports oxygen transport, energy production and normal cellular function. During the menopause transition, periods can become irregular and may sometimes be heavier, which can contribute to iron loss. Once periods stop, menstrual blood loss is no longer a source of iron loss. Iron also plays an important role in maintaining normal hair and skin. Low iron levels may be associated with tiredness, pale-looking skin and increased hair shedding.
